Build overview

Another Arkansas score, I managed to pick up this beast in West Memphis, running, with original overdrive trans...Price: $800.00. What is this monstrosity, you ask? It's a 1949 8EL 337ci Lincoln flathead, the biggest one Ford produced, used from '49-'51, also used in the big Ford F7 F8 trucks. Rebuild parts are available, speed parts....not much new stuff. This was a hot mill to begin with, even compared to the 255ci Merc flatties, roughly 150hp/275 torque factory. They do have one caveat, however, weighing in at 800+ pounds! It's going in a Model T though, so who gives a wag, right?

Build overview

After responding to an ad about a Lincoln Zephyr V12 engine and trans In Fort Smith, Arkansas about 8 years back, I took a little drive south to look it over. The engine was incomplete, and I still don't know about the viability of the block, but the real gems were the complete front and rear axle/diffy, with brakes, wishbones, and lever-action shocks all from the same '46 Lincoln! The grouchy old bastard said he was tired of tripping over the shit, and offered to throw it all in if I bought the engine.......all for $300.00! The Model A frame was a scrapyard save right around the corner from my house, and was free for the taking. Take a look at that Zephyr banjo rearend...it's beefed up as hell with reinforcement ribs, looks gnarly. Lincoln also originally engineered those leaf spring button inserts that Posies uses to smooth out the ride...

This is a '27 body I discovered sticking up out of the weeds at the side of a rural business about 7 years ago. The previous owner was attempting to restore it to original and lost steam early on. It has rust-outs in all the usual spots; bun panels, lower cowl, lower doors and rockers. After haggling with him and finding that he had the doors, fenders, window frame, and turtle deck, I paid $1,500.00 and dragged it home. Some hillbilly-engineered, cobbled-together attempts at rust repairs to the doors have warped them to hell, the turtle deck was piss-poorly repaired, but reworkable, and the decklid is so full of bondo, it needs re-skinned.
